> **Context:** Someone's brother's contact runs RN Vision RN ONE / RN Lite in a Porsche GT4. This is a real-car trackday/club-racing data system — the strongest incumbent in exactly the "real car" segment we plan to enter later. Assessing what it is, what it does, its weak points, and whether we can compete.

## 3. What It Can Do (Strengths)

1. **Turnkey real-car data capture.** Windscreen mount, auto track detection (160+ tracks, ~270 variants worldwide), auto start/stop. Zero configuration for the driver.
2. **Integrated dual/triple-camera video with live data overlay** (lap time, reference, gain/loss shown in real time while driving). This is genuinely polished and is the "wow" demo.
3. **Deep vehicle integration via CAN-Bus** — homologated adapters for a huge list of cars incl. **Porsche 981 Cayman GT4 (Street), 718 Cayman GT4 RS, 991/992 GT3 Cup, BMW M4 GT3/GT4, Mercedes-AMG GT3/GT4, Audi R8 GT3, KTM X-Bow, Toyota Supra GT4**, plus ECUs (MoTeC, AiM, MaxxECU, ECU Master). Pulls RPM, throttle, temps, steering angle, brake pedal, gear.
4. **Free analysis software (RN Analyzer)** — iPad + Windows. Lap comparison (up to 4–5 laps) with synced video, Google Maps track view with driven line, sector timing (custom sectors), G-force analysis, gain/loss delta. Surprisingly capable.
5. **Ecosystem breadth:** RN LIVE (LTE live streaming), RN Telemetry (live data to laptop, paid), RN EMS (auto event management), RN TPMS (tire pressure), RN Connect (iOS remote control).
6. **Simulation Mode** — paid add-on connecting RN ONE/PRO to **Assetto Corsa** to compare sim laps vs real laps in the same analyzer. (Note: direct overlap with our AC pipeline.)
7. **Proven, German-engineered, race-validated.** Ten years, 2,500 units, works-driver endorsement.

## 4. Weak Points / Gaps (Where We Win)

1. **No interpretation, only data.** RN Analyzer is charts + manual lap comparison. The driver/data engineer must still *read* it. **No automated coaching, no natural-language "you lost 0.4s in T3, brake 8m later."** → This is exactly our LLM-coaching wedge. Their deliverable ends where ours begins.
2. **Hardware cost barrier.** €1,200–3,100+ per device, plus CAN adapters per car model. Our phone/GPS-puck + cloud model is an order of magnitude cheaper and venue-shareable across many drivers.
3. **No cloud, no multi-tenancy.** Data lives on-device → synced to one iPad/PC over WiFi. No central store, no cross-driver/cross-venue leaderboards, no longitudinal driver-progress tracking, no fleet view. Each device is an island.
4. **Closed & proprietary.** Hardware + software locked together, no public API, no white-label, no embedding. We are AGPL + commercial dual-license + API-first.
5. **iOS-first, device-tethered UX.** Free analysis tools are iPad/iPhone (Windows client exists but secondary). No responsive web, no scan-a-QR-get-your-report flow. Our racecraft web + QR model is more accessible.
6. **Hardware-heavy, possibly maintenance-mode.** The parent company has rebranded around contract electronics R&D; Race Navigator looks like a mature, slowly-iterated line. A pure-hardware competitor is slow to ship new analysis features. We ship software weekly.
7. **LITE is weak value at the low end.** No data overlay, no CAN-Bus, 720p only — €1,164 still. The analysis power only really arrives at ONE/PRO price points.
8. **No karting / rental focus at all.** It's a trackday + GT-racing tool. Karting venues (our Styria anchor) are completely unserved by them.
9. **Post-session, manual workflow.** No push coaching to the driver's phone; the driver must pull data off the device or the venue must. Our venue-capture → auto-report → QR flow removes that friction.
10. **Sim is a bolt-on, not native.** Their Simulation Mode requires buying their hardware *plus* a paid sim-mode license. We are sim-native first (works today on AC, zero hardware) — a far easier entry point for sim centers and esports teams.

## 5. Can We Compete? — Verdict

**Yes — but not head-to-head on hardware, and not for their existing Porsche-Sportscup customer.** Strategy:

### Do NOT attempt:
- ❌ Building a competing €3k windscreen box with dual cameras + CAN adapters for dozens of cars. Capital- and homologation-intensive; it's their moat, and the parent company's R&D muscle backs it.
- ❌ Displacing their credibility with works teams / Porsche Sportscup. That's brand + 10 years of relationships we can't out-spend.

### DO compete on (our advantages map directly onto their gaps):

| Their weakness | Our wedge |
|---|---|
| Data without interpretation | **AI/LLM coaching reports** — the "why you're slow" layer they don't have |
| €1.2k–3k+ per driver | **B2B2C venue license** (€99–499/mo) + €5–10/driver; shared capture hardware |
| No cloud / per-device islands | **Multi-tenant cloud**, cross-venue leaderboards, driver history, fleet dashboards |
| Closed proprietary stack | **Open-source core + commercial dual license + public API** |
| No karting presence | **Karting-first** anchor (Styria) — a segment they ignore entirely |
| Sim is a paid hardware add-on | **Sim-native** (AC today, zero hardware) — sim centers & esports as zero-friction entry |
| iPad-tethered, manual pull | **Scan-QR / web report** pushed to driver's phone |

### Possible strategic angle — partnership, not just rivalry:
RN Vision has a **Simulation Mode for Assetto Corsa** (our sim too) and zero AI-coaching/cloud story. Two options to evaluate:
1. **Position as the cloud + AI coaching layer** that RN Analyzer lacks — potentially even an integration/partnership where their hardware feeds our coaching API (they have the data pipeline + CAN depth; we have the intelligence + cloud). Their hardware-first model makes them an unlikely fast follower on LLM coaching.
2. If they remain closed, we simply **out-compete on the underserved segments** (karting, sim centers, trackday newcomers) where their €1.2k+ entry price and hardware logistics are a deal-breaker.

### The honest bottom line
For the **brother's-contact Porsche GT4 trackday driver**, RN Vision is the right tool *today* — turnkey, CAN-integrated, works-driver-blessed. We are not taking that buyer yet. Our path is the **volume layer underneath**: karting venues, sim centers, trackday newcomers, and anyone who wants *coaching insight* rather than raw data — at a price that makes sense per-session rather than per-owned-device. As our real-car/hardware story matures (OBD-II+GPS bundle), we grow upward into their territory on the back of the coaching/cloud differentiators they structurally lack.
